He arrived in the United States in the Fall of 2002 and within 5 months he had seven pieces of artwork juried into 4 different fine art shows. Over the years, he has been juried into many prestigious art shows including the Annual Thunderbird Fine Art shows, the Mountain Oyster Annual Show & Sale and The Phippen Museum Western Art Shows in Prescott, Arizona, where he received the 2011 "Award of Excellence" for the best body of work, presented by the Western Art Collector magazine. As long as he can remember, Chul Yong has enjoyed sketching and drawing. Even as a young boy he knew someday he would grow up to become a professional artist. Being mostly self-taught, Chul Yong has received only occasional guidance from other artists and teachers throughout his life. For years he has painted and commissioned portraits which now hang in private collections around the world. Skillfuly working with oils, Chul Yong paints in the traditional style of classical realism, using the old masters technique of glazing to create the beautiful brilliant colors and skin tones seen in his finished pieces.
